What to look for when inspecting valve ass'bly on R69s?

Hi all, Aside from checking valve clearance (normal maintenance), doing a leak down test, carbon build-up, valve and valve seat pitting, valve guide play, vertical play on rocker arms (to reduce valve noise), flat (straight) pushrods with unworn ends, what else should one inspect upon disassembly when one suspects valve issues, please? Joe Groeger (bless him) also advised smoothing out any flat spots and imperfections on the rocker arms with a fine stone.

How does one know if the inner and outer valve springs should be replaced (besides even length)? What are the symptoms of "bad" springs? What else should be inspected, please, and what else could possibly go wrong with valve assembly? And what symptoms would one expect?

Many thanks in advance!
