Looking for recommendations for a puller set that will fit a rear bearing left behind on my '63 r60/2. Thanks.

Wheel bearings? When I first got my R69S, I pulled the bearings without any puller. Mostly used what Duane has on his site:

Rear camshaft bearing. Should have clarified.

Try the search box in the upper right...I used "bearing puller" (without quotes). No experience on my end, though.

Ziggy,

For future reference this usually happens because you did not get the pocket of the bearing hot enough. If you look in the back of the block (where the flywheel lives) you will see a nice round bump and that is the rear pocket for the camshaft bearing. You need to heat that to 200 degrees F before you pull the cam out.

The Barrington Manual goes into how to get it out if it is left behind, but I am not home and do not have it in front of me.

If it was me I would get a small inside puller, could even be a small slide hammer that has inside jaws (I just looked up a slide hammer and puller set at Harbor Freight for $27). I would not spend much as once you have the rear pocket heated to 200 degrees it should come out fairly easily.

I hope this helps, but its not that bad of a situation. If you don’t have it already I strongly suggest buying the Barrington book. It is well worth the money in many ways!!

Good luck and please report back on how you fixed it so we have it for the archives!!!

I have the Barrington book and have heated the pocket multiple times with a MAPP torch, even put a hot plate under to retain heat. Using an inside jawed slide hammer, and nothing.

I have the Harbor Freight inside bearing puller and it works just fine for that job. I'll suggest you are not getting the bearing pocket hot enough. If you get it hot enough, the bearing will literally fall out.

I also use the Harbor Freight inside bearing puller.
It pulls the rear camshaft bearing out easily.

Thanks to all. No idea why it didn't work the first go around, but it's out.
