I compared part numbers. The /5 SWB part numbers says "up to 09/1971". The /5 LWB part numbers says "from 09/1971". And the LWB and /6 part number is the same. Now I don't know specifically about the seat pans...could be the difference in the SWB and LWB seat has something to do with the covering or grab rails or something like that.

.......that was fast. What I want to do is put this seat on a 1976 R90/6. So now the questions become : did they also make the seat pictured for the LWB bikes ??? Or did they switch styles from double grab-bars with a strap to the single wrap-around gear-bar/ no strap at the same time they switched from SWB to LWB ???
I like the double grab-bar with strap and plain upholsrty but do not want a larger gap between the seat and tail light. Thanks.

I'm not around /5 and /6 bikes much. I did the same thing with the part number for the rear frame. For the SWB /5, the part number says "up to 8/1971". For the LWB /5 and /6 bikes, the part number is different.

You might browse the photos on this site to see if you can glean anything about the seat and where it lands on the bike.

Found something posted on another forum. They said that the SWB is around 28" long while the LWB seat is 31" long. Suggests to me that the seat pans are also different.

You'll not avoid that gap. My LWB R75 still has the small battery box with about 2" spacers to move the rear fender back but the space between the tail light and seat is the same. I just ran a tape down the pan front to back. it's 30 1/4" ignoring the contours. Hope this helps.

Well, that answers that. Guess I’ll try an “S” seat. Thanks to all for the input.
