Right...never was OEM...only the R69S had a fender emblem. I think a guy named Danny Vu from Vietnam (he's on ebay) was making things like this.

Didn't the R50S have a fender emblem, or is that Danny's doing again?

No, only the R69S and possibly that emblem was put on the R69US models. The OEM badges have nice round edges, whereas the aftermarket have squared edges.

They're sold by ebay seller bluemoonscooter11. I searched ebay for "bmw motorcycle fender emblems" and found a number of items.

Thanks for the additional details on that emblem guys. Something told me it wasn't quite right - but I do still kinda like it.

This is my 1st time working with a 6 volt system. The ignition switch plate & color coding of the wires was a little tricky at first. I was able to figure it out though - as there's really not much here. I don't even have blinkers.




All the lights and switches now work as expected. The one thing I'm still monkeying with is the horn. Really wish I had snapped a before pic - this thing was crusty and had the multiple coats of paint that cover the rest of the bike. I couldn't get a peep out of it - but it's so cool I couldn't resist going the extra mile.


I made fresh "gaskets" from a paper bag as this appears to be what they were to begin with. Stripped/repainted and bought all new fasteners as the old ones were pretty rough. Added a dab of fresh grease where the old caked on dry stuff was.


I have not figured out how to "tune" it though.... It wants to beep now, but it's just making a clicking sound. There is an adjusting screw on the back and a small one one on the front. To be honest though, I'm not sure what either one does. When I google this horn I just see a bunch of people trying to buy or sell them for Porsches and VWs. Anyone know how to properly adjust it?

Anyway the adjustment for the horn is the screw and nut on the front
loosing the nut and turn the screw in or out for best sound then tighten the nut

Thanks Tommy. Missed a step in my photo process - hope it's fixed now.
There seems to be a larger adjustment screw on the back of the horn as well - I saw it articulating a mechanism inside the horn - but I couldn't tell what it was adjusting. Maybe I'll just keep turning screws till it works...

Back in the fall of 2010, Darryl wrote an article on overhauling a Bosch horn. It looks like a different model than yours...doesn't have any screws on the front, only the adjuster screw on the back.

Dont adj the screw in the back
The adjustment is the screw on front and locks in place when the nut is tightened
The Bosch HO/FDF is a great horn, very loud
