R50/2 Polizei electrics

Post by radebaugh7498 »

I have a 63 R50/2 Polizei with 12v system. Has anyone any info regarding the 3 suppressor capacitors next to the voltage regulator. Are they magic or related to police equipment? No one I've talked to so far has knowledge about this system. I kinda want to keep the original harness intact....HELP!

Most likely used to surppress noise for their radio/transmitter or used to protect contacts on the regulator
The 6 volt bosch regulator also does have a small one on the bottom of the regulator

Hi Tommy, I just realized that I never responded to your post. Thank you very much for your comment as I think you must be correct in your impression.

I can't speak to the Bosch system you have, but many alternator based charging systems convert alternating current into pulsed DC, then feed it to the electrics and battery. Often the battery will reduce the hills and valleys of pulsed DC. Addtionally, large capacitors are often used to further "smooth" the pulsed DC into lower amplitude waves. Electronics often work better with a more flat line DC input. Not quite "noise" suppression but closely related.

Thanks for your response. To be honest I'm fairly ignorant but I'm tryin to learn. Considering the state of Polizei electronics in the 60s I'm thinking you are right on target.

Thanks again
