Frame Repair Shop?

Post by srankin »

So I wrecked my beloved RS. The frame is bent badly at the steering head bosses as a result of the forks absorbing the impact.

Does anyone have recommendation for a frame repair shop near me. I am in the Rochester, NY area. St.

Lets hope you can get it sorted soon.

Sorry to hear it. I don't know much about frame repair or cost of repair, but BMW still lists main frames as an available part, though a little pricey. I'd be more inclined to reframe than repair a badly bent frame.

My understanding is that while the new frames are still listed, they have been NLA for quite some time. At least that is what Max BMW tells me and they are one of the better dealers for stock and such.

I am examining different things and repair is one even though at this time it may not be feasible. I really hate to part the bike out as I really liked it and it was a limited production bike, not many imported.

Finances may dictate the future of it. St.

If the frame is so bent that it cannot be repaired.

Maybe you can find a frame that would suit.

I have been having conversations with various fellows and most likely a replacement frame is in the works, if I decide to rebuild.

Hi St,
Sorry to hear about your accident.
My brother has a '78 RS (could be '77?) that he's thinking about selling. It does not run, and needs engine work.
Was recently repainted factory gold color. Could be had very reasonable. Lives in Albany area. Max is his dealer.
I can put you in touch with him if interested.

I was just reading about a restoration project on ADV forum in the Olds Cool Airhead section. The frame in that project came out perfect after straightening and it didn’t even require hardly any disassembly of the bike. The place that did the work was GMD Computrack.
