Removal of hella turn signal switch from handlebar

Post by fuzzymuzzie »

Hi: I am new to the forum and in process of restoring my 1965 R69s. My question is how to remove the black hella turn signal switch from the perch on my R/H handlebar grip. I have taken the screw out of the base but it does not want to budge. I am going to put a new wiring harness and clean the contacts on it. I have searched for it but results.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum! I guess I'm not certain I know what a Hella turn switch is. Do you have a picture of it?

Well I tried to attach a photo from my phone and it said file is too large, the forum must have very small storage for attachments. Well it's the black wing looking switch with base mounted on the right grip

Aren't there both top and bottom screws on that cap? As I remember, when both screws are out, it is a slip fit, so you may have to lightly pry to pop it off.

Hi: I only have one screw, on the bottom, I have seen the newer ones that have two screws.

Some of the switch bases, had two slotted dog point set screws to hold the switch in the base. Some had only one. Simply remove the set screw(s) and pull on the switch, while feeding the harness into the hole in the base, that is all there is to it.
The base in the photo has TWO slotted, dog point set screws holding the switch in the base

Well I had to destroy the switch, the top portion would not move. So getting the top removed I could finally reach the lower screw to remove from the perch, was most likely going to buy a new one anyway.

Thanks for the inputs
