Im still taking hi resolution photos but I can't post them on this site.
There are any number of programs that can easily take a large photo and reduce the resolution or size. Windows has one called Paint. I suspect that Mac does as well. There are websites that will accept your photo and return to you an image of a smaller size.

I know it sounds crazy to have to do something like this in this day and age. But the reasons are 1) the computer screen can only display up to a specific resolution...beyond that, it's just a waste of time to upload; and 2) it can create problems for viewers who have to scroll left/right or up/down to see large pictures.
I understand. It's not worth the trouble to convert every photo so it can be displayed. Im doing this simply for documentation and input from the members. They have kept me out of a lot of trouble in the past when they catch something Im doing wrong. Some of the issues regarding scrolling however, are probably related to the PC they are using and not the higher resolution photos. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into a forum like this so I'm good with the iPhone 8 for now

Great day in the shop today. I finished taking the bike completely apart (frame) and Im ready to drop everything off to be powder coated. I was also able to strip the headlight bucket of the electrical cobweb inside. Tomorrow I will talk to a painter so things are coming together. Once the frame, fenders and tanks are out it will be time to start cleaning up the parts.

Hey good timing for someone else.

Your photo of the wiring inside the headlight couldn't come at a better time regarding someone's question in the BMWMOA airhead forum.

He is thinking of covering the /6 instrument cluster, to the /5 system which as you know is a completely different animal as the idiot lights, speedo and tack on your /5 are in the headlight shell and the /6 has them mounted on the handlebars.

I just wrote a note explaining this difference and the possibility of the main wiring harness distribution system in the /5 might be different from the /6. Your picture confirms this and if you don't mind, I am going to borrow it and use it in that post. It may save him a large headache.

I am enjoying the updates and progress. I am waiting myself for parts to come back from the powder coat shop, so I can get back to my overhaul. Cheers, St

ST ..... feel free to use anything I post here. If it wasn't for forums like this and the BMWMOA I wouldn't be able to do what I do.

In regards to this restoration Im going to install a Rocky Point Cycle Ignition switch upgrade kit. The kit replaces the awful circuit board and complicated key assembly in the headlight. When I talked to the owner of Rocky Point Cycle he mentioned the difference between the /5 and /6 harness and how they work. He may be a good contact for your friend to answer his questions. Here is his link.

See if this links to the MOA thread, if not it is under the airheads section and is new within the last few days. St.

Everything is out. Both tanks, fenders, ears, and headlight bucket are at the painters. All the frame parts are at the powdercoaters. Now it's time to dig into the big box of parts and start cleaning. I didn't expect everything to happen so fast but everything feel into place.

Thanks ST for the link. It worked.

If you get a chance go to Youtube and see if you can find one of the documentaries on the BMW factory. I was amazed at how long it takes to put a SR1000 together from parts to ride off. LOL, it just proves one of my points regarding BMW bikes, design them so they can be built fast but don't worry about the poor guy who has to work on them later.

Yeah, I find the dismantling part goes like a breeze. Funny, after a few restorations, I still can't reassemble in 20 minutes like the bike was built in. LOL, I guess if I want to, I will have to purchase a few special jigs, tools and robots. Then the fun would be gone. St.

That was a fun video. Thanks

Yesterday I tore into the front shocks. The seals were leaking but most of the bushings inside are in good shape. Nothing irritates me more than seeing damage from someone using the wrong tools to work on their bikes. The end cap is all scared up. Grrrrrrrr. From there I started on the wheel hubs and transmission. It will take at least two more attempts to get it all ready to reinstall. Clean polish. Clean polish. Clean polish. :-)
