Don't know if there is a "kit", but you would need to get a new rear cover and source the internal/external parts needed. They seem to show up on this diagram:

Most would say that the kicker is strictly for emergencies as the internals were not as robust as the /2 kick-only bikes. Just wondering...what is the goal to adding the kicker?

Kick start kit

Post by pokie »

There actually used to be a "kit" available to retrofit a kick starter to a /6 transmission. In the day, I retrofit many transmissions. Yes, the kick start was capable of starting the engine but it was a bit frustrating to use if you compare it to a /5 kick start. As far as I know, the "kits" haven't been available for some years. Now, like has been said, you have to go through and order the parts individually. It can be pretty expensive.

kick starter retrofit

It would be a nice to have, i.e. a kick starter, as a backup to the electric start, for cold mornings, etc.
I had a Yamaha 650, that had both and the kick starter came in handy on the cold morning starts....
