Engine Stand - 1968 R50US

Post by x95lee »

Hi all, I ran a couple searches of the forum and didn't find anything on point. Apologies if I overlooked something obvious.

I've started tearing down my 1968 r50US for a first time rebuild.

Does anyone have a source for a relatively inexpensive (relatively) /2 motor stand?

I saw thisitem, but am not sure if other options exist.

Thanks very much.

Tom

I think you found the engine stand that I had seen before. I did run across reference to another one from Cycleworks:

In this thread, it appears the Cycleworks stand was modified for other uses:

I went the real cheap ( cost effective) route. Copied from someone else but rebuilt my whole engine using it.

The stand

Post by Jim D 5112 »

I just made one out of some flat stock similar to the last one pictured. Just made a rectangular frame to set on the bench. I then added 4 vertical legs to it about 6 inches long. They were welded in place to the frame to align with the mounting holes in the bottom of the case. All you need are two bolts to put through the holes in the top of the vertical legs and slide them through the case mounting holes that are used to mount the motor to the bike frame.

Engine Stand

I have built similar stands for both the /2 and /5 engines. For the work involved, I'd say this was a good price. Bolt it up to one of those cheap Harbor Freight engine stands and go for it!
