R60/2 piston installation

Post by djg »

I'm bringing a 68 R60/2 back after a prolonged hiatus in storage. My question relates to the piston installation. Is there a front & rear direction to install each piston? I wire brushed the piston top in search of an arrow or indicator and only found two items. First and near the top of the piston was; 72, 45. Also down near the edge of the top was this; sp 0.05. Hoping one of you experts could help me understand and make certain I install the pistons properly. Thanking you in advane for your time & efforts.

The R60/2 pistons don't have

Post by schrader7032 »

The R60/2 pistons don't have any offset with the wrist pin, thus they can be installed in any orientation. My R69S pistons also did not have any markings indicating direction. I'm pretty sure the /5-on pistons have the word "vorn" indicating which is the front direction of the piston..."vorn" is German for front.

Some pistons have

Some pistons have marks/arrows,some don't. It seems to be up to the manufacturer. If you see no marks, then direction should not matter.
