Farewell to the club for the time being

Post by malmac »

Last month I made a suggestion to the club that overseas members be given the option of paying the same membership fees as their US counterparts, on the proviso that the overseas members accepted an electronic copy of the news letter rather than a printed on paper copy.

Today I got a nice postcard saying my membership has lapsed.

So I have decided that I am not going to renew my memebrship. If the club changes it's fee structure at some point in the future I would certainly think about rejoining.

Thank you to everyone who has given me advice along the way and I hope that I have contributed nearly as much as I have received.
Your a great bunch of people.

Thank you for having me.

Regards

Fees

Post by mcsherry1328 »

Not sure how much more the overseas costs are but it's probably still pretty low. I really enjoy your posts and old school tribal knowledge. That is something that's rapidly fading. It would be sad to see you gone. I agree with you that the fee should be same as US. They should change that policy, they can't afford to lose members.I realize it's not about the money but the principal of fairness. All the best and hope to see your posts again soon. Regards, Michael

I've enjoyed your postings

I've enjoyed your postings Mal. I'll gladly donate a dollar to help pay your dues. If everyone who wants to keep you around gives a dollar you will probably have a life membership.

If we can figure out how to collect the money. Anybody know about crowdfunding?

Ah man that sucks...
I also enjoy your posts and such.

Question,
Isn't this forum here free?
I can't remember.. I pay my membership right away and don't know if this site and the membership are connected.

Parts for the forum are free.

Parts for the forum are free. There are sections that aren't. The whole forum and website are undergoing changes/testing in the background. There may be different criteria applied to areas of the whole website going forward.

I'm embarrassed but glad to be back in the saddle

Mac contacted me and encouraged me to stick it out and that the committee will look at my fee proposal once the new web site is operational.

I thought that was very fair, as the new web site really has to take priority.
So I have renewed my membership under the old terms and am optimistic that the committee will resolve the overseas membership fees before I am due next year.

Just to make it clear to those who do not know my proposal is as follows.

I propose that the club provide overseas members with the option to get a copy of the excellent club magazine in paper copy via the post at the current overseas membership fees. The added cost is for international postage and that is fair.
However if an overseas member is happy to receive a PDF version of the magazine which they just download from the web site, then the mebership fees be the same as for US members.

I for one hope that this option will make overseas membership much more attractive and sustainable for BMW owners around the world.

Thank you to all who offered very generous support re my involvement in the club. These old bikes have been part of my life since I was 17 years old. So 50 years.

Cheers
