Painter Recommendation in NY/NJ

Post by 1967 R502 »

Anyone know an experienced painter that they would trust with a /2 in the NYC /NJ area? Could also be in Long Island, West Chester and Orange County or Southern Connecticut.

You are referring to Holt BMW in Athens OH. Yes, they do great work, but predominately do it only during the off season and are quite booked ahead. And you'll pay absolutely top price as well. A very meticulous painter can do a quite nice job, even if they have never done a BMW. That is not the problem - striping is. There are only a few good BMW pin stripers around. There is a good one near Buffalo NY, the Barrington folks in NE use someone good there, there are others, but you have to be willing to truck your painted parts to them or ship. I used a guy in Lousville, KY for the striping on my '59.

Guys here have almost certainly used lots of different painters in your general area. Someone will chime in.

Mostly all "custom" (or is it "Kustom") painting guys around here in Westchester and surrounding.
If I was restoring my /60 I wouldn't send it to anyone around here. Hopefully one of the vintage guys on this site will pipe in.

Guy in Ohio????? Forgot his name but advertises in the BMWMOA magazine and site.

Yes, Holt.
I forgot that at least 2 of the MAX BMW dealers are now specializing in older and vintage BMW's now. But they do not do paint, they send it out. Probably worth a try to give them a call for a referral. I like/use the Brookfield, CT. location. When and if I have my bike serviced for something I just can't figure out I bring her there to be looked over by Phil Cheney. Probably a name you'll want to be familiar with as well.

K&H

K&H Automotive does some nice work but maybe too far for you as they are in Hamilton NJ. I used them to paint my bike before I put it back together.

Holt

Holt does great work. However, the last time I checked they charged $3,000 for tinware. $5,000 if you want the frame done too.
