horn - steering damper - coil R27

Post by c.d.iesel »

sorry these are not as close as you probably need,
but I still use 35mm camera, it would take me months
to zoom in closer for you. I'll try to come up with
other images from my archives

HORN COIL STEERING DAMPER

Post by c.d.iesel »

BACK AGAIN with detailed diagrams

the horn attaches to the bottom hole of
the 2-hole hanger, the upper hole of that hanger
connects to the coil bracket. the horn then sits
centered between the 2 frame down-tubes.
very little clearance between the outer edge
of the horn and down tubes
I hope this helps your assembly process.
Cheers

What is that item mounted in front of the headlight? I have an R-26 and might find this helpful?
Thanks, Dan

racing number plate w/screen

Post by c.d.iesel »

Dan - the metal number plate with clear screen was made
by Bob Coy, Pres of the USCRA vintage racing club based
in New Hampshire. It is a copy of number plates made many years
back for race bikes. Bob offers this design which is very heavy
metal, and also a very light aluminum plate without screen,
much like enduro, motocross number plates.
You can contact Bob Coy through the clubs web site:

I drilled the holes so oncoming traffic can see me
Not so much for night sight - although with the many
holes I have drilled - and at the slower R27 pace,
night riding with the plate is o.k.
As you can see - with just a slight bend of the side
brackets it attaches easily to the /2 headlight bucket
mounting

The clear shield does eliminate any wind to the upper body and head,
and when tucked down behind on fast road work,
is excellent protection against wind and rain,
and adds MPH's to your top end speed!

R27 pictures of Horn/coil/steering dampener cluster

Post by VBMWMO »

I'm restoring an R27 that came to me in a box. I've looked at both the BMW R26-27 repair and parts manuals, but it's not clear how the horn and coil are mounted. Could someone provide me a picture of these and how they are mounted?

thanx,
