2025 Borrego Springs Vintage Road Run

Post by sherman980 »

For those of you who missed it, this past weekend (Feb 27 -Mar 2) was the annual Southern California Chapter AMCA Road Run. Been attending this event for over 20 years now (missed a year or two here and there), and, up until recently, it had been mostly vintage American (Harley and Indian) bikes followed by a smattering of English (mostly Triumphs with an occasional Vincent tossed in) and only a couple of BMWs. This year, the BMW contingent SHOWED up! We didn't quite dominate the event, but there were more BMWs there than I'd ever seen there ranging from 1950 to mid 90's with several conversions tossed in including a /6 with a Buick V8 motor!

Borrego Springs is located in the low desert just west of the Salton Sea with fantastic riding around the dunes area there and then up into the mountains to the west. Friday's ride went up the Julian (great pie & coffee stop at the Julian Pie Company!) and then up towards Palomar Mountain with a lunch stop at Josie's and back to Borrego. Weather was great and a good time was had by all! Saturday started a bit cool and got downright cold and wet as we headed up into the mountains! By the time we got to Julian (again), most turned around to head toward lower elevation and rides through the desert and back to Borrego. Even with the cold wet weather up high, everyone still seemed to enjoy the day and we all managed to catch up for the meet Banquet that evening - GREAT Prime Rib with all the fixins!!

The BMW folks came from as far away as Minnesota and just about every State in between. So, if you want to take a great ride with a bunch of vintage bikes and riders, keep it in mind for next year - typically right at the end of February - beginning of March.
