R35 ignition switch

Post by joelincourt »

Hello all,
I finally found a key that fits in the r35 ignition switch, but it will not go in past the ball bearing keepers. I am going to take it apart and see if I can rescue it. Has anyone already refurbed this switch? How many ball bearings and springs are going to fly across the room when I take the lid off of this switch? I rebuilt the switch on my r60/5, but my manual was a lot more user friendly than what I have now. Is there an exploded view of the switch in the knowledge base or is the switch simple enough that it is self explanatory?
Thanks,
Joe

Have you got the right key? There has to be a flat somewhere, to turn the lights on and off. Depending which switch you have, the flat might be at the bottom or elsewhere.

I think my switch is for an MZ, the key has a slot at the bottom.

Thanks for the comeback Charlie. I took the switch apart and cleaned out the rust and then sanded down the barrel on the key until it fit in the switch I have. I assume that I have the correct key, but the wrong switch. The previous owner did not have a key and by-passed the switch with two toggle switches. One for the ignition and the other for the head light.
Problem solved,
Joe
