R27 Tires

Post by comet »

Try J.C. Whitney in Chicago. At one time they had a good selection of foreign made tires that used the old Dunlap K 70 tread pattern. They looked good and if you ground off the country of origin no one knew the difference...................Comet

Can anyone recommend a source for the 3.25/90-18 tires that are correct for the R27? If not 3.25, will other widths work front and rear? How wide can I go if the 3.25s are not available? Richard

Heidenau K34 (German) tires from Meyer are exact copies of the Metzeler Block C tires. I got three 3.25s for my R27 at about $50 each, while shipping them was another $40. Cheng Shin also makes a 3.25, available from Meyer.

If you don't use 3.25, the modern metric equivalent is 100/90, which are a little smaller in diamter and a little fatter. Most people just use 100/90.

Thanks for the info. I have Cheng Shin's on there now and they feel a little squirrely even at the speeds this bike is ridden at. The 100/90's are probably a better choice. There is a mint R26 on eBay right now (Buy-It-Now for $11K !!) that has 90/90's fitted.

I got 3.25 and 3.50 Heidenaus to replace what I am running now whenever they wear out - Cheng Shin Hi-Max Rear C907 100/90 on both my R27 and R69S. The Cheng Shins seem fine to me.
