Welcome to the Forum

I see you are in the UK? Whereabouts? There are number of 'Antique' owners/lurkers on the forum.

I'm in Surrey.

You'll find a Spares

Post by Beemer54 »

You'll find a Spares Catalogue and a Tech Spec sheet in the Library of The Airhead (www. theairhead.co.uk) They're free to members and membership is either by writing an article or donating £10 to the Air Ambulance.

I'm in Surrey. I have two R12's and an R51. There are around 10 R12 owners in the UK plus about 5 R51 owners that I know of. Definitely recommend joining the Airhead for UK BMW advice and contacts.

John

Hi. I'm just north of Leeds and have a couple of early BMW's. I met a guy in Harrogate last year with an identical bike, wondering if it's the same bike that's moved south?

Apology - possible Hijack

Post by Beemer54 »

This thread just illustrates what's been a problem for many years now. The U.K desperately lacks a Register of who's got what and lives where when it comes to the older BMs. 'Rare Breeds' clubs, like the New Imperial Owners Association for example, work theirs very effectively and owners are more easily able to track spares, check on a bike's provenance and easily get in touch with other owners because of it. No register will ever be complete - or totally accurate - but it is a big help.

Who's to do it though? The BMW Club has a 'Vintage Register' but this is just a list of names of people 'interested' in Airheads or K's. Someone listed on there might have an R32 or a K1 - or nothing at all. There are some very enthusiastic Vintage men (usually in both meanings to the term) but they're all living in splendid isolation and ignorance of each other.

It would be a slow but ultimately worthwhile job for someone to take on the task of breathing some life and sense of community into the pre-war and pre- '69 scenes. I've got it on good authoriuty that 'The Airhead' would be willing to co-ordinate and assist in this but so far no-one has voluntered for the job.
