Recommendations for shipping?

Post by Ned »

Good day:

I'm considering a BMW that is quite far from my home.

I know the manly man thing to do is a "fly and ride" but I don't feel comfortable doing that.

A Google search turns up many shippers but I thought perhaps someone here may have had experience with one they could recommend (or advise to avoid).

Thank you.

Ned, I just had a bike shipped here to Michigan from California. I used Allied Van Lines. The bike arrived exactly as it was shipped. It came on it's own pallet supplied by Allied. I would say at this point if I need to ship another bike I will call Allied. Bobc

uShip.com

Ddelivered on time in a short time frame with very competitive price wise. Communication was great and the bike was perfect when it got here.

I've used A-1 Auto Transport (does motorcycles too) and I was happy with them on both occasions. It's been a couple years, but they're still around and worth a call, if only to get a ballpark on the price you can expect. Personally, I'd avoid uship because I've heard they're essentially a "loading board" that puts your job on a board where the actual shippers then bid on it. Just adds an unnecessary middle man in my opinion.

I have shipped lots of bikes...even sidecars...and I always use U-Ship as they indeed let shipping companies bid on your project...I have had cars shipped as well...and it really works... you can put a target price on the listing and shippers will contact you if they will meet your price...usually it is a long distance house moving company that wants to fill their load... I once had a car shipped from Seattle to my front door in Southern Kalifornia for $500 and when the trucker delivered it he told me that he only hauled new MB cars to Seattle from Long Beach and came back empty all the time...what a great deal.

I have paid $500 to $650 (depending on location) to get a bike from East coast to the West.... do it all the time...had a sidecar hauled for $400..and the shipper was thrilled to do it....nice folks....usually they are little independents and this is an easy way to make a little extra money.... everything is always insured and I am confident it will arrive in good condition.. in an enclosed trailer..

I would not hesitate to use them again.
