Wow - R NineT Racer & Pure!

Post by Slash2 »

For those of you who care to gander at the line-up BMW Motorrad is currently turning out, here's a look at the 2017 R NineT revisited and revised in 2 new editions. If you were like me and felt weak in the knees at the sight of Roland Sand's Concept 90, but were less than impressed when the production bikes rolled off the line, well prepare to be pleased. The "Racer" arrives in a clearly Sand's inspired kit which sports the gorgeous lines of a retro-modern R90S-esque bikini fairing in a gorgeous pearl paint scheme. She cuts a lovely profile and has accomplished a feat BMW has floundered with for several decades, she looks good from the front! The "Pure" doesn't answer any personal questions that the original failed to address although the traditional spoke wheels have been replaced with alloys which make some logical sense. Unfortunately, the snub nose headlight shell still garners images of my fiancee's persian cat. If you haven't seen one, they appear as though they were soundly punched in the face at birth.

At any rate, this begs the question; is BMW dipping their tentative toes just a little deeper in this vintage inspired pool and if so how much deeper will they go? Is it time to order the "Racer," or wait and see what's in store for 2018... It's a tough question but exciting none the less. Enjoy the pics!

Orders anybody?

The racer looks promising, just a pity it is not as well equipped as the original R nineT, particularly the forks and brakes. The double Akrporvic exhaust on the original sounds and looks awesome. I guess most owners will opt for a more sporty exhaust.

Agreed

You would think the "Racer" title would carry consistent performance upgrades as opposed to downgrades. But, knowing BMW, this model will be around a few years and hopefully improve with solid sales numbers. You could always upgrade the bike as you see fit, but not many guys will want to tear the front ends etc off a $15k+ bike right out of the crate. Or maybe they will.
