Reading the Original BMW Teile parts catalogue

I am confused (not unusual) . I am wanting for once and for all to understand what two of the symbols mean in the parts book.
What does the * mean? this is in the first column ,before the actual part #.
Secondly what does the upward arrow mean on the drawing pages after the part #.
I would be very happy to find what they stand for . Thanks. Mark
