Parisian French- Vintage motorcycles law

Post by bmwsog »

According to a reliable military source of mine: The local government of Paris is considering/implementing
a new law barring motorcycles older than the year 2000-from entering the city.

If this is confirmed, it creates a hardship on owners. This fickle law also ignores an existing ordinance in Paris forbidding vehicles"cars and trucks older than 1996" from passage within the city.
This would give Charlie Hebdo a field day.

Liberal governments seem to be the first with non-liberal repressive and over-regulatory laws and ordinances.(CA?)
Please keep that in mind when visiting polling places.

Political comments

I would be in favor of a "no politics" rule on this forum. Such a rule has existed for years on the BMW Sportouring Forum and it is strictly enforced. These days, a civil and objective discussion on anything remotely political is all but impossible.

Please don't post overtly political pieces here. Issues that are relevant to us can be discussed without bringing in the politics.

I was just at the annual meeting for the Classic and Type Clubs section of the BMW Council of International Clubs, and this issue was brought up. It is a concern to everyone when a law like this is placed on the books. The presentation at the council suggested working through classic clubs and also through Automobile associations. In Europe, associations like the ADAC (like our AAA) have a lot more pull.

It appears from the news that the Parisians are fighting the regulation with protests. In this case, the rule is a reaction to the smog, especially from older diesel cars, and also congestion in the city center. London took a different approach, all vehicles there are scanned and the owners are charged a congestion fee that varies according to the time of day, day of the week and overall congestion in the center. These old cities were not built with auto traffic in mind.
