1992 R100RS Rennsport 30 Edition

Post by zeitgeist »

All,

Looking for some data and verification methods for my most recent friend shown here - my very clean 1992 R100RS Rennsport 30 Edition.

1) Does anyone know anything about these last 30 R100RS mono levers made?
2) Is there a good VIN decoder that will show the details?
3) Are there any other owners of this bike out there?

Thanks gang! Looking forward to learning about this amazing motorcycle. Just rode it up HWY 1 both from San Francisco to Ft Bragg area and back...It is truly a special bike and will get more recognition as time goes on - even though it is not the twin shock version.

Best,

Z

VIN decoders:

Last 7 digits - http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

17 digits - http://www.analogx.com/contents/vinview.htm

Ian Falloon's book has some info on these bikes. It looks like they came with the K series of panniers and chrome case savers. Not sure but they might have been twin plugged? They also had a numbered plaque on the instrument cluster. The book says that 954 were made for 1992 and 151 came to the US, sold as 1993 models.

Try googling "r100rs rennsport 30" and you'll find quite a few websites.

Rennsport 30

This is actually th only data that I have based on google searches and it says 151 R100RS total were made for 1992/93 (all titled '92) and that there were only 30 Rennsport 30s and the color schemem and all silver wheels were signifiers.

My bike as a bit of factory glue where the number badge would have been - will plug in the vin on the decoders you sent and see if there is any other information.

RS 30 Rennsport

Z, This model happens to be one of my all time favorites. I don't own the more modern mono shock version (92-93), but I do own a collection of the original 1979 editions. Fascinating to learn that the RS 30's had dual plugs. Are your cylinders dual plugged? The blue/silver with the orange pin striping is just spectacular in appearance.

The referenced book says the twin-plug cylinder heads are non-standard. As in a user modification.
