Winterizin' my '81 R 100 RT ?'s

Winterizing? What's that??

I did some googling and came up with these pages.

http://www.eecs.umich.edu/~deroo/bike.d ... erize.html
http://www.maxmoto.co.uk/techtalk_winter_layup.shtml

Try searching and figuring something out that works for you.

Depending on the length of time, I would consider things like:

- fuel stabilization with Stabil. Probably would fill the tank completely to the top to minimize the amount of condensation. Possibly drop the float bowls and empty the contents.
- battery...certainly a battery tender is expected and even could consider bringing the battery inside where it's warm
- oil...change oil before putting the bike up
- exterior...wash and/or wax; I think I've read where people spray with WD-40 or something like "marine fogging" stuff
- I've read about tents that the bike can be encased in with fans or dehumidifiers...seems a bit much.

That seems like some basics. As for starting it up next season, I might consider cranking the engine with the float bowls removed until I saw the oil pressure light went off. That would ensure that oil will be circulating when it finally starts.

1) Besides putting the battery on a battery tender, stabilizing the fuel(i used 'seafoam') and draining/cleaning the float bowls are there any other suggestions?

2) Any suggestions for first start up of season after the bike has sat thru the winter?

Thanx
