Yes, they're fiddly. The trick is to have the clamps on the head sized as well as the carb and air filter area loose. Then you have enough freedom of movement to get them on. Note that there's a left and right air horn and also that each air horn should only go on one way. Since the carbs are staggered due to the crankshaft, figuring out the left and right should be easy...one is shorter than the other. For each carb, you should have the elbow located so that the center of the air horn is making a straight shot into the carb, not coming in at an angle. But you're probably right...the BMW engineers are laughing at us now!

I checked the air filter and it's clean. While pulling the parts, I saw the rear of the left carb. It was black. I pulled the slide to get a look inside and it is completely covered in a black film inside. Too rich?
