1983 R65 Side Cover Repair

Post by Gary T »

Looking for guidance on repairing battery/side covers with broken tabs. I would like to keep the original covers with decals intact. My initial thoughts were to use epoxy to fasten a spring clamp that would snap over the sub-frame or even a discreet thru-bolt to hold the spring clamp in position. I am sure I am not the only owner to experience failure of the original tab...interested how others have handled this and how successful the repairs were.

I read a repair by Matt Parkhouse. He glued a piece of plumbers tape to the inside of the cover and used that for attachment to the frame. Or take a suitable washer and bend it into a 90-degree shape...glue one side to the cover and use the hole for attaching to the frame.

If you can find a way to make it work, then it's a solution!
