Post by Armand »

And this is an R90/6? Not sure what an R9/6 is. ;)

No, you don't need a condenser with a Dyna III. I have that system on my /7. But I leave the condenser in place for the odd chance that I need to switch back especially in an emergency. I carry with me the old points plate. Could be that the condenser is being harmed by being "stored" in front of the engine. Don't know...maybe I should remove it and store it with my points plate. :?:

Yes it’s an r90/6. I figured that the condenser was leftover from the points. The former owner had the points and plate under the seat. Thanks

If you have to revert to points in case the electronic ignition fails, having removed the points plate you'll have to set the timing again.
I keep only the advance unit under the seat and leave the points in situ. That way I just slip the advance unit back onto the cam nose and the timing is already set.

With the Dyna III, the advance unit is reused and the points plate is replaced with a new plate that has the Hall effect sensors on it.
