R90/6 Brake job

Post by redavide »

Under what conditions should a brake disc be replaced (R90/6)? They're kind of pricey (dual discs on my r90/6) -- about $300/each and I don't want to buy new ones if it's not necessary.

Also, after removing the calipers the rubber seals obviously need to be replaced. The replacement kits I found include a new piston, but my pistons look fine. Anyone know where to buy just the rubber seals??

Thanks!

I got mine from boxer2valve.com but other companies sell them as well. They may not show on their websites.

I think I found individual caliper parts for my /7 from Ted Porter in California.

Any opinions on when replacing brake discs is necessary?

I believe the disks have a minimum thickness stamped into the inner edge somewhere. Also, if the disk is grooved where the pad has been running in it, that would indicate uneven or bad wear.

LOL, remember to measure the disc thickness in one of the groves if any. Also look for any cracks around the mounting bolts. St.
