stroke 6 kickstarter lever.

Post by malmac »

Usually dont hang around this part of the Forum because I also have an R69s.

However I am looking at buying a 1974 R90/6 with kickstarter lever.

Would someone be able to tell me how far out the lever sits from the airbox face?
One of the ones seems to have the lever sitting out further than I remember.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Mal,
I just measured my '74 R90S and the lever sticks out 12cm when it is in it's completely retracted state.
In the image, I am holding the tape measure level, looks a bit distorted from angle.
Good luck,
Scott

Hi Scott

Thank you so much for the reply.

Going to look at a couple of second hand /6's tomorrow, so your reply is much appreciated.

Regards

I am not sure about the /6 but the lever on my RS is vertical when fully retracted, I mean 90 degrees to the ground.

LOL, one of the things I find with it is I am constantly grabbing it instead of my choke lever when trying to turn the chokes off after the bike warms up. Mind you, this is while I am riding. Maybe that is one of the reasons BMW put the choke lever up on the handlebars in later model bikes? St.

I thought the kickstarter was not available after about 1975 or have I got that all wrong?

I think it was an option up to a point. If it means anything, I checked my /7 on RealOEM and it shows the kick start lever as a feature of the transmission. If I were to trust the ranging info on RealOEM, it appears it was "available" on all twin shock models out to 1984.

Sorry, I forgot to add my RS is a European version from 78, a so called Belgian Police Bike model. As it came from the distributor at that time Butler and Smith, it was equipped with the optional kick start as well as four way flashers and an oil cooler along with the two tone red and black paint job.

I can't say for sure what years the kick start was standard for even the /6 bikes, I do recall my 74 R90S bikes had kick start as original equipment.

With the /7 bikes at least for the US, I think it was an option. St.

The R80G/S had a kickstart standard (up to '86 iirc), my '83 R80ST had a kickstart and I have seen R65's with kickstarters.....

as it is said. We can learn something new every day.

I am certainly older maybe no wiser but better informed.

Thank you all.

So far I have looked at three bikes with kick starters and two out of the three looked dodgy (hanging out).
