R26 Periodic valve adjustment

Post by Frank471999 »

In all the 29 years I have owned my R26, I have searched high and low in all the technical data but still haven't be able to find what km/mile period of doing the valve adjustment. As a precaution I do it every 5000km/3000 mile.

I would love to know what the actual period is-------the right figure information is appreciated.

My Clymer manual for the R69S twin says to do a complete tune-up every 4000 miles, which includes an adjustment of the valve clearances. Most times, I suspect you'll just do a check of clearances which no actual need for adjustment. If the clearances are remaining the same for successive checks, maybe you could extend the mileage to 6000 and check again.

This is more of a question for the Vintage part of the forum. No need to repost. I'll move it to the other forum after a bit of time. :)

Hi,
The R26 owners manual states that the valves should be checked at 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 miles from new. Then at 4,000 mile intervals thereafter.

Thanks dardaris2725. Where did you find it? I've searched high and low without success.
