I don't own a K but the son does.
For anyone interested here are a couple of pics regarding some maintenance work on the K100 (2 valve job).
The problem is certain bearings and seals in the finalk drive.

Here I have had to make a bush and press it onto the crownwheel because the shaft was worn to an undersize.
Also I have made up a dummy bearing spacer to assist me to calculate the correct shims without having to pull the thing apart when I find the calculations were a little tight or a little loose.

Any suggestions from those with experience, most welcome.

I have heard of K bike diff. problems over the yrs. But never experienced any. I had a 88 K 100LT, 93 K1100 LT, 2003 K1200GT. Kept the oil changed/tires inflated. Maybe just good luck? Good luck.

this bike drags a side car

This K has a side car attached and I guess the old girl is just working hard all the time.

K bike rear drive?

One other thing to examine while you're in there.

The speedo wheel (impulse sending wheel) is a press fit on the shaft..it can come loose with miles and if it does, it spins on the shaft..no more input for the motometer.

If you can pull it off with your hand, clean everything up and use some red Locktire to anchor it. Let it sit overnight before assembly.

If your speedo just stops..remove the sensor on top of the rear drive and use a thin blade to see if the wheel just spins while the wheel is still.
