Can someone tell me the appropriate width of the pinstripes on a '76 R90/6? I have newly painted fenders and tank (Granada Red) that I am sending out to be pinstriped, followed by clear coating. I recall a discussion on this website about this but cannot find the thread.

I think the thread was back

I think the thread was back in 2005 but it looks like the archives don't go back that far. But this is the best I could find:

http://www.vintagebmw.org/v7/node/6714

which includes the link to Vech's site:

http://www.benchmarkworks.com/services/stripe.html

Thanks Kurt. That's enough

pin striping by hand vs tape and clear coat

What does everyone think about handpainted pin stripes using tape as a guide followed by clear coating? I once had the gas tank on my 1992 R100R painted and pin striped with permanent tape, then clear coated. I was not happy with the results. I think that if the stripes are painted using appropriate masking tape, which of course is removed, and the tank and fenders are then clear coated, that the results will be quite satisfactory and far better than tapes stripes. Perhaps not as originally done by BMW, but acceptable and durable nevertheless. Any comments?
