carburetor was pissing gas

tried to kick start my bmw r75/5 today (electric starter will not turn over) and then I noticed that it was pissing gas out of the right carb. is that an easily diagnosed problem (or is it just a matter of taking it to shop and having them take it apart?)

Likely some debris came from the tank and is holding the float open. It's a relatively easy thing to do to remove the bale holding the bowl in place and carefully slipping the bowl off. Be sure the petcocks are off. Get a jar or cup and hold it under the carb...or have something on the ground to catch the gas. Hold the float up parallel to the body of the carb. Turn on the petcock. Slowly lower the float, enough to let the gas flow. Move the float up to stop the gas. Do this a few times. Turn the petcock off. Carefully put the bowl back on, being sure not to damage the small gasket. Snap the bale in place. See if the carb is behaving itself by turning the petcock back on.

If your carb float is not shutting off and your electric starter just goes clunk, it is possible that the cylinder may have filled with fuel and could be hydro-locked.
You did not say if you were able to turn the engine over with the kickstarter.
Be careful as this condition could bend a rod.
