The gasket on my R75/5 is getting brittle. I’m uncertain as to how the cap comes apart to replace the gasket. Any wisdom on making this repair will be helpful.
Matt Parkhouse has a nice layout of a repair in the MOA Owners News. It looks like the cork sealing ring is held in place with a rivet...the rivet needs to be drilled out. I found a nice set of pictures on the MOA forum:
In Matt's article, he says if the rivet has already fallen out on its own, then just tap for a 5mm screw/bolt. Otherwise if you have to drill out the rivet, go with the 6mm.
Thanks Kurt! Looks like a project that you tackle when the gasket is completely worn out. Mine is still very functionable at this time. Hopefully this project is in the far future, but really nice to see it has been documented. Appreciate the links!
It's been some years since I did this, but I remember that what holds it in is a split pin. I managed to get it far down enough with a thin-bladed screwdriver that I could hold it with a pair of pliers. Twisting and pulling got it out. I put it back in with a small hammer and it has held for many years.
