Getting an r60/6 running after sitting for over 20 years

LOL, I thought the 74R90/6 had a disc brake on front, I guess I will have to look at some data sheets.

I change my oil every two thousand miles, but rarely do I ride less than an 50 mile ride so things get warmed up good, works out any moisture in the engine. I do my filter every four thousand miles.

Gear oils are at 20,000, forks once a year. St.

I don't think the pan needs to dropped all that often. What I would add would be a number of rare earth magnets to the bottom of the steel pan. They will catch any bits of metallic items floating around. You should also use a magnetic drain plug. As for the pan bolts, most as I recall thread all the way through the engine case into the sump area. When putting the bolts back in, something like Hylomar or non-hardening Permatex Ultra Gray should be used on the threads to keep oil from migrating down the bolt. Don't over tighten the bolts...I use a nut-driver on the 10mm heads so there is less of a chance to strip the threads.

Well, I didn't read the model of the bike, I thought it was a R90/6, those had a disc. Sorry, LOL, one less fluid to change one less chance of leaks. St.

Thank you. I really look forward to driving it. I've really grown to love the design of these, might have to get another in the future.
The drain plug currently has a magnet on it. I'll probably drop the pan after I put some mileage on it.

Really, don't worry about dropping the oil pan. The oil you will be using has a bit of stuff in it to act sort of like a detergent and as long as you change it regularly it will pick a lot of stuff up over time and run it into the filter.
The old BMW /2 bikes didn't have filters so it was part of the maintenance to drop the pan and clean it out.

The more you ride and change the oil, the less you need to drop the pan,LOL. St.

Gotcha, I just saw it in the manual and felt sort of extreme to do it since it says to do so after the first 600 miles. Though that 600 mile mark was hit some time ago lol.

In all honesty, I know my dealer didn't pull the pan off at 600 miles on either of my bikes, I don't know of anyone who does. What manual are you reading? LOL, most dealership mechanics I know don't want to do anymore work then they have to.
