Post by miller6997 »

I have to say, the bike in that ebay link is a mess, and I agree that it is way overpriced at $5000+. If you look really closely, there is almost nothing on it that is really right. The description says, "Paint is very good and patina'ed." To the contrary, it looks like it has been repainted with a sponge (ignoring the dents, look at the paint texture on the headlight shell and the rear fender). It might as well be a basket case.

If this thing hits $6000, it will be time for me to recalibrate all my benchmarks for estimating value.

That bike looks funky! The front shocks are angled "back",are the front forks bent? It is up to $5400.00 and about to hit 6K IMO. Wait it out,I found my 10K original miule survivor R60/2 for $6500.00 2 years ago.

The forks do look close to the frame, but I checked my R69S and I can fit a closed fist in between the frame at the level where the lower brace comes back from the front axle. It looks like I could the same on the bike in the picture.

The headlight key switch is some cludge...not the sliding cover and nail key that they all had.

Looks like the carbs and/or the advance unit needs some work...in the video with the bike running, it won't idle down like it should.

I've never seen a solo driver's seat like that. It's not the silent block type...it's cantilevered off the mounting under the tank. Probably a rigid mount.

Something funky with all those control cables. Lots of extra cable length and going in all directions. Sheesh!

Post by miller6997 »

Something strange about the listing on ebay. Sometimes, when I click on the link, the photos that appear are the ones apparently taken at the auction and other times, using the same link, the pictures are completely different, taken in a garage. The more revealing detailed photos are in the first set but do not appear in the second set.

Oh, well... Caveat emptor

Not repainted?????

Post by jeff dean »

Come on! Look at the pinstriping on the tank. Poorly done and way off by someone who does not know BMW pinstripes.

And the fender was bobbed. The grips are not original.

The rear view mirrors -- J. C. Whitney?

The seller is either lying or ill informed about slash-2s.

It may be a fine bike, but there are reasons to be very concerned.

Yes, caveat emptor.

Post by miller6997 »

Thinking about the over-the-top bidding on that forlorn R50, I remembered this recent auction, which for me was also a very startling price for a pretty shabby bike:

$$$$ 7K and not done!!

Post by rdnNHandAZ »

The bike is now at $7145 and 2 hours are left! If that thing goes for nearly 8 grand we owners have gotten richer as a consequence. The buyer is almost required to spend 5K more to have a bike that looks good and is safe. They could easily have 15 Grand in it when done. Is that what nice sorted and refreshed R50s go for? I'm beginning to look like a genius for buying my R60 last year for 4K. I think I'll go out to dinner at a nice place and take a printout of the final sale to show the wife so she can tell me how shrewd I am!!

Post by miller6997 »

Either there is a shill bidder, or somebody is getting screwed, or both. Because the auction is "private", it's not possible to see what kinds of bidders are involved.
