Post by loftus7608 »

Picking up my "new" bike in Colorado and bringing it to Florida. Nice rock scenery around the seller's house.

This is a half-plate tintype of my `68 r50 taken (by me) under the SF Bay Bridge earlier this year. Ed

Nice look to it, but is there

Nice look to it, but is there some reason you have the negative flipped?

(I know I'm going to get a ration from one side for noticing such trivia and from the other for not banning the photo.)

Hi Darryl. The reason it is flipped is because a tintype is a positive image (taken on metal). So, as you may know, when captured in the viewcamera it is upsidedown and backwards (flipped). You can correct the upsidedown easily enough by inverting the plate. But you can't correct the backwards/flipped (without use of photoshop). So, what you see here is what I see in-hand. I hope that explains it. Happy to take it down if you'd prefer -- no worries. Ed

Please don't take it down, there is no nipple-age and it is pure art. Plus I honestly think that most here are of "adult" age! LOL!

These days most people would probably be more offended by the cigarette than the model - personally I like both.

Jeez, Darryl, good eye! I had to stare at the picture for a long time until I noticed the gear shift is on the wrong side.

Well, the posting rules here

Post by Darryl.Richman »

Well, the posting rules here are to basically limit things to PG-13 content (read the FAQs here, particularly #7). I don't see either image as being out of bounds, since nothing is visible that you can't see on a beach.

I wasn't aware about how a tintype worked. I think that the daguerroetypes were produced on glass as positives that could then be turned over to eliminate the flip. I think they also used mercury vapor to set the image, hope you're not doing that!
