Post by stagewex »

Got'um on last night and as the first parts or accessories I have bought for this bike in a long time they look really nice. Warm but raining here in NY the next couple days but can't wait to see how they look on the road. The bright red when illuminated just makes too much sense facing rear/backwards.

I also just ordered a second pair of the red lens.
Couple more pix from the side. Plus one of Peppermint the Beagle who is also a sidecar pup herself:

Post by wa1nca »

Yes they are nice and bright
I didn't know if I would like them but for 15.00 I decided to try them
My second set arrived today
It looked like you ordered the last set
They have just been relisted and now their are 5 more available
Peppermint looks like she is ready for a ride
Jet will have to wait until my sidecar is finished next spring
Bluemoonscooter also has the amber ones 4 for $16.00, and amber and red lens for Buco and Enduro saddle bags for $ 20.00 a pair

those were the ones that i also bought...they are pretty original except they don't say MADE IN GERMANY on them...identical otherwise, and they do look good on the bike...the other person was correct, no turn signals required until 1970.

... about those Red Len's

Post by stagewex »

Couple little things were bothering me. My headlight low beam went out (new lamp, $3.95) and the battery on my little handlebar clock went dead ($10.00). Certainly the type of simple problems you'd look forward to having with a vintage bike. When I bought and installed the Red Len's last Winter it was a 10 minute install in a cold garage. But I noticed while riding lately that the left side lens had its radiating circles focused inward and not outward like the right hand lens. I don't know how that translates to a car behind me at night but it is not correct. Figured I'd just turn it around but there is a locating piece of plastic that prevents that. I had bought a second pair of these red lens, mostly because I had never seen them before and of course like most of you have become somewhat of a parts hoarder of whatever appears to be "rare".
Turns out all of them were for the right hand side even though the original amber Hella's I replaced have a distinct Left & Right lens.
So I used a little hacksaw, cut off the plastic locator and sanded a bit. Now it it installed properly. I believe a few of us bought these from the same fleabay vendor so check yours.
