R27 tires

Post by Allan.Atherton »

I like these on my R27:
F – Cheng Shin Hi-Max Front C906 100/90 or 90/90
R – Cheng Shin Hi-Max Rear C907 100/90

They are inexpensive and work well.
The front and rear have different tread patterns.
The 90/90 is closest in size to the original 3.25 but is not available for the rear.

I also got a set of F&R Heidenau K34 3.25 from Meyer in Germany. These are replicas of the original Metzeler Block C which have same tread front and rear. I ordered three of them plus two 3.50s for my /2 so the price per tire with shipping was well under $100.

R 27 TYRES

Post by c.d.iesel »

I love my AVON 's (ROADRUNNER SERIES)

90/90 H 18" AM20 front

90/90 H 18" R2 rear

pressure 26/26 psi casual riding,
30/30 Sport riding

soft sticky race compound, excellent wet and dry pavement grip,
and excellent high speed stability on dirt road/trail VT / N.H. .
about 4,000 mile life

EXCELLENT TYRES !

choice is do you not care about "RIDING" at speed,
and just potter around local? = any junque tires

or do you want to enjoy the bike to it's original
intended purpose = quality TYRES

tires for r27

Post by eblen6882 »

I purchased the Heidenau's for my R26. They have the OEM size 3.25 X 18 for the old singles. I don't like the way they feel at the pressures in my owner's manual, something like 22 psi front and 24 rear. I have gradually increased the pressure to 40 psi front and rear and I like they way they feel now. The Heidenau's don't show max pressure on the sidewall so who knows if these pressures are OK.

YMMV.

R26 / 27 tire pressures

Post by c.d.iesel »

give some detail about your 'do not like feeling'
with "book" tire pressures of 22 - 26 psi ?

MAX Load tire pressure is for Max Load Rating.
Like 800 lbs machine/rider weight on that tire
would require 40 psi. - as an example.

you should be fine at say 30 f 30 r for fast
highway speeds and solo rider

If the sidewalls of these tires are flabby, and it's not a
'hi-speed' rated tire design - rather they are just general
non sport design tire - then your 40 psi may explain
your feeling 'better' - ??????

R27 tires

Post by VBMWMO »

Hi all. My I recently purchased a 1961 R27 and I am in need of new tires. I've seen cheapo tires at JC Whitney, but I want my bike to have nice tires that keep me safe. Any recommendations on what and where to purchase? Thanks in advance for any and all responses.
