what about the bar end mirror, is it historically accurate? Which year they were first introduced on bmw?

My first vintage 66 R50/2

Post by todcp »

One more bucket list item checked off. Just acquired this restored R50/2. Wanted one since I was in college but never fit in with my single motorcycle for everything life until now. Recently retired so have the time and went searching. Added to my BMW R1150GSA and a restored 1959 Triumph T100.
Runs perfectly and only two very minor paint dings to be touched up.
Needs to be done:
Add tank striping. (next week or two being done my a top expert). The restorer did not want the stripes.
Replace the chrome engine covers with original. Found some used.
Delete NOS clamp on mirrors with headlight mirrors. Albert mirrors ordered from Vech.
Replace SS hardware with original. (the larger hardware is all original cadmium so just need the small nuts and bolts attaching the rear fender, tank and seat. Originals found but may need replating).
Need a locksmith as the key is missing for the tank cover and fork lock.

Anyone know if the rubber covers, inserts, for the rear fender seat mount holes are available anywhere? I won't be mounting a rear seat. Like the looks of the single seat.

1966 R69S

Post by emek69 »

I got this 1966 R69S in Dark Green , it had nice patina that I wanted to preserve but some things were a miss. I did the best I could and here are the results:

After:

....Did I mention it used to be Rattle Can Dark Green? and yeah I kept the pillion seat...

Any reason why you painted the air cleaner black?

I think it actually looks

Emick69,bike looks gorgeous, good job on the rejuvination.

As for the black air cleaner,I think it actually looks really good! Seems to flow well with the bodywork, and makes it look a bit more vintage, however I am biased since I too, am part of the "paint it black club....:)

I really like my black rims on the R69s

Not everybones taste, however it is nicer than lipstick red & yellow flames.
