FLUSH TYPE GREASE FITTINGS & GREASE GUN ADAPTORS

I don't know about the grease fittings, but the adapter is something that you can buy for a chainsaw...a rubber-tipped device which will seal in the conical shaped fitting. I have a metal-tipped adapter not unlike one in the ebay ad. It works but I have to keep some small pressure against the swingarm fitting and keep it more or less vertical, otherwise the grease can squeeze out and generally make a mess.

Wicks,
I doubt that fitting would work, being american size and all. Do you not have the original fitting? If you tried to install a 1/4-28 fitting, you would likely mess up the threads in the swingarm.

I am installing them for the first time (mine is a 1962 - didn't put them on in factory).

Know anyplace I can buy the correct original fitting used on later models?

I don't know if it's the same thing...I can't find the fitting as a separate call out on any of the fiches. But Vech has this listed on his website:

Yeah Kurt, he had them, so that's that. Cept, trying to find that cool chainsaw adapter at Wally World...not having any luck. Any tips?

I've not seen one myself, but I've run across something called the "Push N Lube"...here's a couple of website references:

I saw mention of another method. Take one of those plastic nozzles from a caulking tube. Cut off a very small bit of the end. Stick the other end on the end of your grease gun and pump away. It might get messy but if you hold it square, it should do fine.

I bought an adapter (NAPA, Pep Boys) for my grease gun, the gun I use to lube all of the fittings on my older cars as well as the fittings on my /7. This adapater is a long metal tube that comes to a point with a small opening. First I unscrew the standard zerk adapater from the end of the hose on my grease gun and then screw on this pointy adapater. By holding it just right on the funnel-shaped fitting on the back of the Earles swingarm, I can depress the small ball on the fitting and carefully force grease past the fitting. I've also used the same adapter to grease the swingarm pivots on my /2 and /7.

So there are a number of ways to skin this cat...no offense to ASPCA...
