Best Ride in the USA

Hi Peter

In my opinion the best vintage BMW event is the meet hosted by BenchMarkWorks in Sturgis, Mississippi in April. There are some pictures of past meets there posted on their website.

For the East Coast the ride up the Natchez Trace to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive is pretty nice but again, in my opinion, not as spectacular as the roads north of Durango, CO to Telluride and down along the river to Dolores and Cortez.

Best regards

Larry

I prefer the wide open spaces of the West. I rode from Texas to Washington three years ago and then took a side trip up into Canada to visit Banff Provincial Park (spectacular). Many national parks such as Grand Canyon (North Rim if you can get there), Zion, Bryce, Glacier, Yellowstone, Yosemite. Some of these places (Yellowstone and Yosemite) will be filled with tourists depending on the time of the year, but there's plenty of other places in the West where you won't see another person for miles and miles. The Pacific Coast Highway is very nice (lots of tourists and gawkers), but Northern California to Washington has quite a bit to offer.

I gravitate to the West...for some reason, I'm not that interested in riding to the eastern portion of the US. It's probably due to the higher population density and I really like to see the majestic mountains.

If you end up on the west coast, or in California in particular, be sure to let me know. There are lots of great riding roads, and I can show you how to have a great time without getting on the Interstate.

Now if i was planning a trip to the USA for myself and the bike R51/3 and wanting to spend a few weeks in total on the road what would you suggest as the state/territory/area that represents the best ride in the USA and any specifics would be welcome. On that same subject is there a gathering of vintage BMW bikes that is a "not to be missed" get together, if so when and where.
