Side Car Gearing

Post by comet »

The R51/3 rear drive ratios are, solo 9/35 (3.89) side car 7/32 (4.57). For R67/2, solo 9/32 (3.56) side car 8/35 (4.38). Almost all the plunger frame BMWs had side car lugs. If you doubt the stamped numbers on the housing, mark the driveshaft and rotate the rear wheel once, you should come close to the ratio above (3.89) ect..................Comet

Side Car Gearing

Post by VBMWMO »

Can anyone tell me how to determine if my R51/3 is geared for a side car and in fact if there is a difference, also do all frames for the R51/3 have side car fittings?
