Electronic ignitions

Post by 1967 R502 »

So I’ve been looking around at the various electronic ignition systems online.

They all have various benefits and draw backs. One that caught me attention was the 6v system sold by Uli’s. To me it has several advantages, but a key one is it drives it’s trigger off the crank/generator rather than the cam.

As I am using a cam driven Tach, this is a big advantage.

However it then tosses this advantage by mounting an ignition coil IN FRONT of the cam. Thereby making mounting a cam driven tach impossible.

So I asked myself, if the trigger is mounted on the generator, why can’t this system just use the STOCK 6V ignition coil in the stock location, thereby freeing up the camshaft again.

Can anyone think of an ELECTRICAL reason why this is not possible?

Is there any difference between the stock 6V magneto ignition coil and any other 6V battery/ignition coil?
