uni-syn for bing carbs

Post by sclafani »

I just restored 1965 R50/2. I just received volume-47 mag in the mail. On page 6 (carb balancing) it mentions using a uni-syn. There are different ones on the market. Can anyone provide the best one to get?

I have a very old one that was passed down from my father. I would purchase the edelbrock 4025 if I was buying it today.

The most important is understanding that by turning the adjustment plate you are adjusting the amount of pressure and the height of the air float. You want to match both sides on idle and then on part throttle. If part throttle is off you may need to go back to idle and start again. It’s an easy but tedious process. I typically adjust the float for the middle because it’s easier to read and match up. Your personal preference though.

Make sure the air float is vertical when using it. If I get a chance I will take a picture, but I am not home right now.

I found a video that shows how to use the uni-syn. This is basically how I did it as well at idle and then part throttle. Remember to use a fan to keep the engine cool during this process.

Best ones I have come across are the "EMPI snails" these come with an adapter that allows it to just stick on the carb inlet and are so straightforward to use. https://www.amazon.com/Empi-Universal-P ... B073RPTLZM
