R69 started again

Post by Seek »

My R69 lives again! Far from finished yet, but it's headed in the right direction now. In this short vid, first run without silencers yet.

I bought the bike 1993. Then it went through a thorough restoration. But there were some niggling issues. I used Italian pistons back then. I knew the timing gears had too much backlash. And there always was a weird tickling sound when I shut down the throttle. So I pulled it apart this winter.

Indeed the pistons had a lot of wear. The timing gears had about 0.1 mm backlash! And I found the rear main bearing had spun on the crankshaft. Quite a bit to deal with. I also had the heads renovated with new seats and guides. Then I found the gearbox was leaking oil, so I redid that one too, and found two of the bearing seats were clapped out, so I found me a better casing.

Now I have some issues left. The air filter screw thread pulled out. The carbs are leaking. I don't like the amount of ignition timing difference between left and right. So plenty to do.
