1954, or who is copying who?

Post by R68 »

I'm futzing around with a new camera, and thought you folks would like to see three different 1954 four stroke air cooled motors: Zundapp, BMW, and Universal. The Zundapp is "robust", the Universal the best machined, the BMW the most "cool". Can't ride anymore, just living room display now...:(

Interesting comparison, however it seems to me the Zundapp is all three: the most robust, coolest and best machined. It also seems to be the most over engineered. Which may be why the hit the financial brakes very hard.

I think the shown Zündapp 601 used chain gearbox (4 sets of duplex chain) instead of gears. Apparently more efficient and quieter - though my listening to them back in the day didn't substantiate that...
