Here is an update on my Black Phosphate kit experience. I purchased a kit from calvan.com and am very pleased with the results. I followed the instructions carefully and it is important to keep the solution over 190 degrees to achieve the complete black color. I got a hot plate and stainless pot at the local Good Will to avoid problems at home :D I cooked the bolts for about 20 minutes or until the fizzing bubbles stopped and then immediately put them in oil. The hardware in my pictures is shiny from the oil but if you wipe it off it is a very dull black. I am very satisfied with the afternoon project!

I really appreciate all the advice everyone has given on this thread but have another question. I had my hardware cad plated last month before I even realized some of the parts were originally black phosphated. Don Hutchinson did the cad and it really turned out great! https://hutchinsoncycle.com/
Per your advice to look at the parts manuals and service manual and sales literature pictures it appears to me that the R26 had the rear brake arm and all linkage up to the brake pedal black phosphated, and the front brake arm and hardware all cad plated. Do you think that is correct?
Before I strip off that nice cad plating on my rear brake arm and hardware I want to make sure I am reading things correctly or if anyone has seen an unmolested early R26. Thanks for any advice!
Jim
