Help me find a R51/3 brake lever bearing bolt

Post by Grant R26 »

I am looking for the brake pedal bearing bolt for a R51/3. Ideally, I want the plus-.2 mm to ream-fit to my worn frame.

As seen here at Salis:
https://bmwclassicmotorcycles.com/index ... -4797.html

Unfortunately, Jan at Salis does not have stock. He is doing his best to find one but there is no ETA for the back order.

BUT...Years ago, I posted the same request here on this forum for a previous R51. AND, if memory serves, a member kindly pointed me to a supplier in Eastern Europe and that saved the day.

If anybody can point me in the right direction...then I will buy them a hamburger next Tuesday !
( to roughly paraphrase J. Wellington Wimpy)

You could try Rabenbauer.de if they have them still in stock.

My brake pedal bearing bolt was also sloppy on my R51/3 frame don't think a +2 new bolt would help
Greased it up and works just fine

Maybe enlarge the frame hole and make a bushing to fit new hole and brake pedal bearing bolt

Hi Tommy
you are probably right there. but my bolt is also worn considerably out of round so a new bolt would at least be uniform and true. that said, due to the frame wear, I will probably need to bush the hole no matter what. Short term, I'll jam if full of grease as you suggest.

I can't find the oversized repair version, but Huggett does carry the replacement axle which I presume is standard size:

https://www.bmwbike.com/index.php?e=mhs and "Extended Search" for "35 21 4 044 026.A"

Hello again Grant,
Please resend your email. My computer is staggering under the weight of my next book, this one on the BMW R5, R51 and R51/2 two camshaft engine and under the strain I've managed to lose your email. Thank you! Christopher

If I had a nickel for every email I've lost...I would be comfortably well off !
