12v battery replacement

Post by Ziggy »

Doing the VAPE conversion on my /2. Looking 12v brand recommendations - lead acid or gel -that others are happy with that fit the small tray dimension.

I use a YUASA YTX7L-BS agm battery on my R50/2. It fits the tray, but I put a wood block spacer on the top and secure it with a larger BMW battery strap and also a strap around the "waist" of the battery. It works.

Hi Ziggy-
I removed the lead plates and cell partitions from a dead 6v and use this 12v battery, to retain a stock appearance.
The headlight uses a reflector from an R65, along with a 12v halogen bulb, which is on whenever the bike is in use.
Been using the Vape a number of years, and have still not got around to installing an inline fuse, which in my view is a very good thing to do. (I intend to put the fuse at the battery rather than in the headlight)
Best-
George
